What is Interactive Brokers?

Interactive Brokers is an internationally present broker where you can open an account from almost any country. It also allows you to trade stocks, forex, and many other assets from numerous countries, being the largest broker in the United States.

Interactive Brokers is headquartered in Greenwich (Connecticut) and has over 1,200 employees across its offices in the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Hungary, Russia, India, China, and Estonia. Interactive Brokers is regulated by the FCA in the UK and the SEC, among many others in other jurisdictions around the world.

Interactive Brokers provides services to both retail and institutional investors.

Markets and products offered by Interactive Brokers

The products offered by Interactive Brokers include stocks, options, futures and FOPs, ETFs and mutual funds, forex, bonds, commodities, and CFDs.

These products are available in many markets, including North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific (Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore), and global commodity and currency markets.

Documents required for opening an account

  • Government-issued ID of the account holder – For example, a passport, identity card, or driver's license
  • Proof of address – The document must show the name and address of the account holder and must not be older than 6 months.

Trading platforms

  • Trader Workstation (TWS) – This desktop platform is designed and developed by experts for sophisticated traders and institutional clients. It enables trading and investment in stocks, ETFs, options, futures, currencies, bonds, and funds across over 150 markets worldwide from a single account.
  • Client Portal – This online platform includes all the necessary tools and functions to use and manage your account.
  • IBKR Mobile – The IBKR Mobile app offers all the necessary functions to manage your investments. You can also trade options with IBKR Mobile.
  • IBKR API – The IBKR application programming interface (API) allows developers to access Interactive Brokers’ online brokerage services. With the API, developers can create custom programs and applications to automate trading tasks and develop commercial trading software.
